A Hard Day's Day

Gosh ! Managed to get into London twice in three weeks ! Another great day with two of the three kids. Deals struck on the train up - a few photos of places unknown to them swapped for time in Jack Wills and Camden town. No problem. So here is the arch through which the Four ran to get to the Scala Theatre in a Hard Day's Night. Poor quality due to poor planning - left camera at home so it had to be the mobile. Every week something different - or the same depending on your point of view. Also a few of Goodge Street - one of my favourite ever songs by Donovan and, I seem to remember, also liked very much by Macca.

Knole Park (revisited again) and The Wrong Tree

Back in spring, several family visits were made to the great Knole Park where the Beatles filmed their videos for the Strawberry Fields / Penny Lane single. When on proposing a third visit in as many weekends, suspicions were well and truely roused within the family as to my motives and having been pressed on the matter (4 females vs. myself - tricky) I eventually revealed the whole interesting (vs. sad) Beatle truth in a manner initally enthusiastic but untimately faltering as the sudden realisation of the endless poses against a backdrop of (hundreds of) trees, old inconsequential arches and a strange white house became apparent. It has to be said that family trust was dented by the incident and has yet to be fully restored.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the Four ate at a restaurant in Sevenoaks during their sojourn between video shoots and stayed at a hotel in Westerham. Was it in Sevenoaks high street where JL bought the Mr Kite poster ?

"Kids, fancy a visit to the toy shop in Sevenoaks ? Kids, where are you ?"

PS. Note the strained faces against the (one hundredth) wrong tree.

A Splendid Day in Old London Town

Being for the benifit of the author on his Birthday Weekend (could I stretch it to the Birthday Month ? Unlikely) I was treated to (allowed ?) a day of Beatle indulgence in the great capital. With eldest daughter and friend-of-daughter in tow we headed (one excited and two apprehensives) slowly towards Abbey Road via Queen's Park as many tube line under maintenance - damm it. A weary trudge down Kilburn High Street and Lonsdale Road, stopping only briefly for a miserable Big M (fellow travellers still too young for pub) we finally made it to famous road but had a few false dawns as we stepped across imposter zebra crossings. We finally realised we had made it to the 'real thing' when confronted by hordes of excitable Italians with bare feet and holding cigarettes in right hand. From there to Saville Row via Camden to allow a little retail therapy for younger travellers (who at this point were threatening to revolt). A splendid day was had by all - well at least by one third of the entourage.

The Kenwood Drive

So here is a video showing the Kenwood gates and then a jerky ride from the St Georges Golf Course back to the controlled entrance of the very exclusive estate. Intertesting ? Only if your an uber-fan of JL (as author is) and even then its hard to fathom any rhyme -or-reason why such trivia should be important - which it ain't.

One Famous Tree in Knole Park

Ok - so there are a lot of trees in Knole Park but which one did the Beatles covort around in celebration of (in humble opinion of author) one of their greatest songs, Strawberry Fields Forever ? Could it be this one ? My sources say yes (see thebeatleforum) but there are a lot of tress. The kids well and truely fed-up of walking around so they hope more than me that there is the end of the story.

Welcome to The Beatle Place

Welcome visitor to this site dedicated to my personal ramblings and muddled thoughts on all things related to The Beatles. Your own thoughts and comments are thoroughly encouraged and most welcome.
